Unfollow Anyone Who Doesn't Inspire You

Hey!

I've been thinking recently about how I'm fairly ruthless about who I follow across social media platforms. Every couple of months I do a digital cull. Anything that no longer adds something to my life gets unfollowed, and I go looking for accounts I want to be more like.

Social media is basically digital fast food. With the rise of AI slop and avatar content consuming our feeds, I think curation is more important than ever before.

I'm not precious about it. I've unfollowed friends. I've unfollowed accounts I used to love that now post the same thing every week. Below are some of my favourite accounts for inspiration right now (not an exhaustive list!), but I thought I'd share.

TODAY AT A GLANCE

  • Unfollow anything that hasn't taught you something in three months.
  • Follow the person you want to be more like, not the person you already are.
  • Sixteen accounts, podcasts and Substacks I genuinely use.

[building]

AI, startups, and getting your name out

Open Residency, episode 37 with Remy Gaskell. If you do one thing from this email, do this. Sit down with your laptop and work through it step by step. openresidency.com. Remy is @aiwithremy.

Ruben Hassid, How to AI. Best free AI newsletter I've found. One walkthrough per email, screenshots of his actual screen, including what didn't work. ruben.substack.com and @rubenhassid

Harry Stebbings. For what's actually happening in fundraising markets rather than what people say is happening. 20VC is the podcast. @hstebbings1996 and youtube.com/@20VC

Codie Sanchez, Contrarian Thinking. Buying boring businesses and general business advice I wish I'd known starting out. @codiesanchez, contrarianthinking.co

Caleb Ralston. Seventeen years building personal brands for some of the biggest creators in the world. His free course is six hours and better than most paid ones. @calebralston

[money and career]

Owning more of what you make

Mia McGrath, Frugal Chic. UK finance from a luxury fashion background, completely jargon-free. Spending intentionally without pretending you don't like nice things. @miarose_mcgrath and frugalchic.co.uk

Hannah Zhang. Career, business and money for ambitious people on nonlinear paths. Which is most of us. @itshannahzhang

Sahil Bloom, The Curiosity Chronicle. Life design and the five types of wealth. Has a great book too. sahilbloom.substack.com and @sahilbloom

Aspire with Emma Grede. I interviewed Emma recently and she's the real deal. Her podcast is the best long-form on building brands that last. Listen here

[health and attention]

The infrastructure everything else runs on

Dr Stacy Sims. Training and nutrition research for women specifically, which almost nobody does properly. Changed how I train. @drstacysims

Dr Rhonda Patrick, FoundMyFitness. Denser and more research-led than most. Where I go when I want the actual research thats science-backed. foundmyfitness.com

Huberman Lab. Long episodes on sleep, focus, training and recovery. I love listening to these on long car journeys. hubermanlab.com

Kayla Barnes-Lentz. Female longevity, a field that barely existed five years ago. @kaylabarnes and kaylabarnes.com/podcast

Bryony Deery. Online Pilates, and she's just launched a new app. The most efficient way I've found to train when I'm short on time. @bryonydeery and @pilatesbybryony

Anne-Laure Le Cunff, Ness Labs. A neuroscientist on how attention and learning actually work. The antidote to productivity content. nesslabs.com

TJ Power, The DOSE Effect. The neuroscience of why your phone has you, and what to actually do about it. @tjpower

[the advice]

Curation matters

I've said before and stand by the quote: comparison is the thief of joy. So if you have that feeling, or "urgh, this content makes me feel bad", why spend our precious time continuing to consume it? It's unlikely the accounts you followed when the OG Instagram launched in 2010 are still relevant today.

Have a good week,
Victoria

PS. Reply and tell me the one account that's genuinely changed how you work. I'll put the best in a future issue.
